Hatha (open): Hatha Yoga is the traditional form of Yoga including physical postures to build flexibility and strengthen the entire body, breathing to energize and focus, and relaxation. All forms of Hatha Yoga will keep your body and mind healthy and happy. This class is appropriate for students of any level. If you are a brand new beginner please take a beginners’ class first.
Restorative Hatha: Soothing and well-supported poses offer us the opportunity to linger quietly for a few moments and savor the simple sweetness of life. The postures and breath leave us nourished and well rested. These postures are deeply supported by blankets, blocks, or other props and are held for several minutes at a time. Restorative Yoga is active relaxation-returning our awareness to a state of simply being is a deep practice that is at the heart of yogic philosophy.
Core Yoga: Combines core strengthening with opening the hips, creating flexibility in the hamstrings and legs, and helps to revitalize the body.
Healthy Backs: A wonderful practice focusing on opening the hips (stretching and strengthening), stretching the hamstrings, and strengthening the abdominal muscles (all three of which contribute to a healthy back!). You will also practice back strengthening to build the muscles aiding “good” posture and efficient breathing.
Meditation Series: This will be lead by Stephen (Satyum) Placido, who has been studying and practicing the Yoga sutras and meditation for fifteen years. The first 3-week series will begin on December 6th: An introduction to meditation utilizing simple techniques to quiet the mind, increase health, promote relaxation, and flow with the stresses life may bring. Everyone is welcome. However, the classes shall be sequential so students are encouraged to sign up for the class modules to get the maximum benefit. TBA
Yin Yoga: The focus of Yin Yoga is more on the connective tissues that form our joints. While gently stretching this tissue by holding poses for long minutes, we rehabilitate our joints. By practicing Yin yoga in conjunction with more muscular strengthening poses, one becomes fully limber, strong, and balanced!
Cancer Survivors: This is a gentle practice of Hatha and breath work. We take the postures slow (both standing and sitting), we avoid lying on the abdomen or sides, and we incorporate restorative postures, deep relaxation, and meditation.
Yoga Philosophy: The practice of meditation originated many thousands of years ago for the dual purpose of directly experiencing the Divine Essence (Source, Creator) while living a healthy productive and harmonious life. This series will focus on the 194 statements called sutras that have been passed down over the past two thousand years. They offer a concise and informative explanation of the mind, its functions, and how to live in harmony and peace with all of creation. (see: http://www.gopalradhabello.com/ for more details on the teachers)
Tai Chi Chuan focuses on developing internal energy “Chi”. Chi is the universal cosmic energy that is in all things. When Chi is weak or stagnant in our body, we become ill. Through the relaxed and graceful movements off Tai Chi Chuan, we learn to circulate “Chi” throughout our body, relaxing, balancing and healing our body while calming our mind. Tai Chi Chuan is a moving meditation. check: www.atouchofchi.com for more information.
Reiki Circle: An introduction to Reiki healing energy. Everyone in the circle will receive Reiki which is Universal Healing Energy. REI means spirit or soul, and KI means energy-specifically Life Force Energy. Anyone can learn Reiki, and no prior skill or experience is necessary. You will experience a deep sense of well being, reduced stress, greater balance, and deep relaxation. ***Please see the Meet the instructors web page for China's bio.
Kirtan: See special events page for more information.
